Amount of Containers Increased in Ports
We can see a significant increase in sea transportation in recent years. However, it is reflected in the statistics that the amount of containers and loads increase in the ports. Especially frequently used sea transportation during the pandemic period has become one of the most preferred logistics services of this period.
It is observed that the amount of containers handled in Turkish ports in July 2021 increased by 12.2 percent and the cargo amount increased by 6.2 percent compared to the same month of 2020.Accordingly, the Directorate General of Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure published container and cargo statistics for July.
When we look at these statistics, the information obtained is as follows; In July 2021, the amount of containers handled at ports increased by 12.2 percent compared to the same month last year to 995,537 TEU.
In January-July, the amount of containers handled at ports reached 7,159,927 TEU, an increase of 12.2 percent compared to the same period last year.
As we continue the published statistics, the foreign trade figures of this increase are based on the data of most ports around the world. The amount of containers handled at ports increased by 3.9 percent to 744,264 TEU in July compared to the same month last year. Container loadings for export purposes decreased by 2.9 percent compared to the same month last year to 367,619 TEU and import container unloading increased by 11.4 percent compared to the same month last year to 376,645 TEU.
